I'll stick my neck out, but I dont think that this is a pub. The Cardinals Hat (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/25797/).
I found a picture (http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/2039267) of a pub of that name from twenty odd years ago. It looks really nice. I've never been but Im sure they make a nice cup of tea.

It's obviously not a pub and never has been as it's a new build. It's simply a house.

Are we now putting pictures of spaces that used to be where a pub stood on here now?

That way leads to madness.

I have no idea what is going on here but I think it needs deleting.

I agree with what you are saying Rob about people taking photos of houses and the like, but i would like this pub to stay on the site as i went in it on 7 August 1997

the pub was a Wilsons tied house with keg beers on the bar and like most pubs on the langley estate it was a rough dump.

I do have a photo of this pub but i am not able to put it on the site yet but i will be able to in the near future.

I think Dave & Conrad were more than happy to have whatever now exists in the space that pubs used to inhabit, more for historical accuracy than pub guide

No doubt D / C will advise if I have wrong end of the sitick

If a pub has been coverted into something else like a home or a shop I've no problem.

But taking a picture of a housing estate just because there used to be a pub there !!!!!!!!!

AND then posting them as the ONLY picture on the site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Madness.

Ok, so the only thing that really needed doing here was marking the pub as closed, which is now done. (Thanks Nick)

I've no huge problem with having photos of what is now on the site of where a pub once stood. I guess ideally I would hope that for a good historical record we would have a photo of how the pub once looked, how it looks now - even if that means the site was cleared and now turned into flats and some sort of description of what happened to it when. I do find it frustrating that clearly some members do all of that research and then don't share it with the world.

I must say I'm more in agreement with ROBCamra on this point. Could this thread be moved to another part of the forum so that discussion can be opened up to those who don't visit this area?

Cheers

Very sensible idea, it does help me if we don't have discussion going on it the 'that doesn't go there' area as it can get confusing as to what if anything needs doing.

Please bear in mind that there are around five regular users of the site who take an interest in historical pub listings but sadly most of them don't participate on the forum.

I'm not. I'm with D and C. :p

I've added a couple myself like The Dove (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/1618/)

I'm also interested in historical pub listings, but my interest stops a long way short of a photo of whatever monstrous building now occupies the site. I remember Conrad having a bit of a laugh at my identification of the correct site of this demolished pub (http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/76054/). I was pleased to see the pre-demolition photo that was posted on Pubs Galore, but the last thing on my mind was to dash out and take a photo of the patch of grass and the advertising board (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=S9+1BS&hl=en&ll=53.409506,-1.422472&spn=0.007751,0.013797&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=15.76974,28.256836&t=h&hnear=Sheffield+S9+1BS,+United+Kingdom&z=16&layer=c&cbll=53.409578,-1.422474&panoid=sqwlIsvP8GPm3zlH4TQmkg&cbp=12,333.13,,0,-7.98) that now stands there.

Most of my friends and family already think I'm pretty crazy for taking photos of pubs, but taking a photo of a demolition site would be, if I can borrow ROBCamra's word, madness!

Im leaning towards your and ROBCamras viewpoint as well. There have recently been a load of new pubs added near me which got me quite excited. Then four of them turned out to be in the same street and had clearly closed decades if not centuries ago. All that was posted were photos of the street.

It does irk me a bit but I try not to let it bother me. Perhaps all the closed pubs should be on a sister site, Pubs Before ??

I to am interested in the history of local pubs but i only add pubs or photos of closed pubs if they are still recognisable as such . The Telford listing has a link to a very good historic pub site with a decent selection of old pub photos :notworthy:

The old pub sites of Oakengates would make a strange portfolio , a Vets , wasteground , hairdressers , paper shop , sweet shop , bank , ironmonger , estate agent/florist , electrical shop and a bridge , and thats just the main street :D

Now perhaps that is a bit too much - I try and restrict myself to ones that have closed within the past few years or those that pop up on other listings sites - makes PuG the authority on what is and what isn't correct (which in turn should lead to more hits and more contributors). Eg type "wallingford arms reading" into Google. It's been closed for years and is now housing but still pops up on numerous sites as appearing to be open. Like http://www.carling.com/beerfinder/venue_details/14591/reading/The%20Wallingford%20Arms

I like the pix. They very often remind us that that what we have now is not the promised improvement on what went before, certainly if it's some nasty boxy flats or yet another Tesco Express. But before and after pix do help: what went before may have been here (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2130366/The-Flying-Shuttle-Bolton-Britains-toughest-pub-staff-scared-time.html)

I see no problems with adding pictures of what is on a site after the pub has been demolished.

I’m thinking of adding the London Inn in Hallsands which was washed into the sea circa 1917. The demise of the village has a very interesting story behind it, but I think that a picture of the English Channel would be a bit much!

Good point.

But does that mean we need a photo of the replacement building if the pub has been demolished?

Or if one has been submitted, what about restricting the photo to the back page and leaving the summary page with no photo if there's none of the pub before its demise? (Sounds like a lot of extra work for admin, so probable thumbs down to that one. :))
